When drawing about the USA in the late 60's/early 70's - don't forget the garbage! We used to litter in this country. A lot. Every alley had a ton of broken glass. Lakes and ponds where people swam had broken glass.

Everything was dirty, everyone was poor, & kids were given trash (paper towel rolls, popsicle sticks, construction paper) as "art supplies". There were crayons for color, & Elmer's glue. Tall grass was woven together to make masks and hats.

It wasn't all disco & cocaine in the 70's, that's for sure.

Looking forward to it! Mike Baron is fantastic!

Additionally, it was a time of racial riots. Teens pretending to be Black Panthers, looking for easy, white targets, teachers, to afraid to get involved and a principal of the high school held at gunpoint, while the school was encircled. It was confusing to this first generation Swedish American, her father, a pastor of a church with much diversity. The time was early in the integration of Newburgh, New York. Otherwise, it was the time of no cell phones or personal computers, hand-me-down TVs that barely worked, no car seatbelts or car seats for babies or children, walking or riding bikes everywhere, cloth diapers, and hanging laundry on the line outside. There were hippies and flower children, Twiggy, drugs, and rock ‘n’ roll. Still, all in all, it seemed like a simpler time.
